I think there are 99% spam in the forum and 1% non-spam. Sorry for the 1%, it took me a hard time going through each post. It was just easier to forget the whole forum. School has been tough and was not able to update anything. I’ll try to come up with some new post soon.

i have been reading about SEO as recommended by a friend of mine. And told me to join SEO Philippines. I learned that if SEO is done correctly, it can be pretty lucrative. Right now SEO Philippines has an SEO contest called Ituloy AngSulong. I do not know if I want to join since I am a newbie in SEO. But it looks like I need to start getting into this side of the Internet world and I need a good place to start. So I decided to start playing with my own application just to get my feet wet in the world of search. And just to apply what I have learned, I downloaded the Google API to start learning how to use it. And my friend lent me a domain to play with, so far I came up with this website that now gives the top 10 Ituloy AngSulong website. But since this is using the Google API, I can only run 1,000 queries a day, I might modify to be able to cache the data and pull the data from Google only every 5 minutes.

My next task is to place the Yahoo results first. I have been searching about the API and was looking for a ready made PHP script I can modify and I haven’t a good one yet. Maybe I will just parse the XML of the feed on Yahoo.

I’ll post my developments of the script on the site.

At Informatics, I have had good teachers who are really, really good. They explain everything well and really seem to be experts in their field of study. But I also had teachers at Informatics International College in the Philippines who know only a little bit and did not really teach well, but were pretending to know what they really did not know.

I think the computer education world is a fast paced world that there is always something new and being a teacher may be hard for them to catch up. That is why the teachers in Informatics that I like are those that say “I don’t know” if they really do not know and just promises they will check it out and by the next meeting, they did some research and gives you a good answer. The teachers at Informatics that I hate, are those that do not have the right answers, and pretend they know everything, and sometimes what they are saying are wrong. But I am a good student. I am not dumb to oppose them and just accept what they say even if I know it is wrong. Opposing a teacher hits their pride and sometimes gives me a low grade.

There are many interactive mailing list out there and one of the common ones I use is YahooGroups. They work great, just create a group of join a group to participate and groups are usually about a topic an nearly any kind of topic can be found in the YahooGroups. When set up, you just have one email address to send to when you need to email anyone in the group and all recipients can simply reply to that email and everyone will receive it too. It runs more convienient than the traditional NNTP

To get more Informatics Students and even Alumni, I searched for some YahooGroups on Informatics Schools worldwide and will invite them to interact and share in the forums.

Hi! I am Meena Bhavana (not my real name, but some close friends of mine call me Mina), a student of Informatics International College (IIC) in the Philippines taking up Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies (ADCS) and will probably be graduating by March 2007. Although I am taking up a computer course, I am self-taught in PHP, MySQL, CSS and XHTML and sometimes school is just not enough. I know many of you worldwide in many of the Informatics schools all around the world may agree with me. And I have learned that most of the knowledge I got was through online forums when I needed to learn something new. Sometimes I think I know more than my teacher! Some teachers are really good, but there are also some that are really not that good at all!

So I created this blog and forum so every Informatics student around the world can converge and talk and share knowledge or just meet new friends. We can teach each other, discuss projects, share answers to exams ideas, or maybe even find your special someone, hahaha. Let’s make the forum really interactive and informative to invite more people around the world to share answers knowledge.

Simply register to post a message on the forum, contribute a story that is anything about Informatics or about the subjects we study, or ask a question. Invite your other Informatics classmates too to spread the word and build the community. Hope to hear from you soon!

Although I am from the Philippines and will invite my classmates first to post on the forum, let’s try to make it a rule to speak in English as a general language for the forum so we can invite other Informatics students around the world. We do not need to have perfect English as long as we can get the message across.
